Flax Bread for Bread Machines

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    9-11 ounces water
    1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil (canola or peanut preferably)*
    2 tablespoon mollasses
    2 1/4 cup bread flour
1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
    1 teaspoon vital wheat gluten
    1/2 cup organic flax seeds
2 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast

Directions:

All ingredients must be at room temperature. (70-80 degrees F, or around 21 degrees C)  Use less water in the given range for high altitudes and higher humidity and weather conditions.  Add ingrendients to bread pan in the exact order given, making a well in the centre of the dry ingredients to place yeast.  Put your bread machine on a whole wheat setting.  When finishe'd cooking, place on a wire rack to cool.

* note:  using peanut oil will help keep your vegan bread fresher longer

Serves: 2 lbs. loaf

I was excited to try this bread but it ended falling apart because of there being too many flax seeds.  I think if you took reduced the amount of flax seeds this recipe could work.

I made this bread yesterday and it turned out perfect.  I only used a quarter cup of flax seeds (golden) based on the other review.

I just finished making this bread and enjoyed a tasty piece. I made a few changes, instead of oil I used unsweetened applesauce, I only added 1/4 cup whole flax seed instead of 1/2, I used only wheat flour and I also substituted a 1/2 a cup of flour with wheat bran. Excellent flavor and really healthy too.  Thumbs Up
