Smoothies
Recipe from: Slim & Fit Kids - Raising Healthy Children in a Fast-Food World by Judy Mazel,John Monaco Cookbook Heaven at Recipelink.com In general, Smoothies are blended drinks that serve as either meals or in-between- meal snacks, depending on the recipe. Smoothies require a blender, a recipe that includes fluid (usually a juice) and about one cup of a fruit or similar food. If using frozen fruit, no ice is needed. However, if using fresh ingredients, you will have to add about three quarters of a cup of ice. When preparing smoothies, first put the juice in the blender, then the fruit, and finally any other additives. Start your blender at low and move up to puree mode. You will need to run your blender for 2 or 3 minutes to complete the smoothie.!
* Fresh can be substituted for frozen, but remember to add the ice. Pesto When it comes to pesto, a blender is good, but a food processor is better. Pesto means paste. We think of pestos as spreads and sauces. Basically you can put everything in at the same time, though it's best to put your fluids in first. Run the processor on pulse. Pulse means to chop intermittently. It's a tap-tap-tap motion. Again, you need to experiment to see what textures are best for you needs. Th pulse mode will give you the best results.
