Makes: 3 dozen cookies

2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening
2 (3-ounce) packages strawberry-flavored gelatin
2/3 cup sugar, divided
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup pureed strawberries
3/4 cup pecans, chopped

In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; set aside.
In a large bowl, combine shortening, gelatin, 1/3 cup sugar and egg; beat until creamy. Add corn syrup, pureed strawberries and pecans; mix well. Blend in flour mixture. Chill, covered, for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place 1/3 cup sugar in a small bowl. Shape dough by heaping teaspoonfuls into balls and roll in the sugar to coat completely. Arrange 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes. Place on cookie sheet on a wire rack for 2 minutes. Remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.
