  • 3 cups dried navy beans

  • 6 cups water

  • 1 medium-sized yellow onion

  • 1 large tomato

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup maple-flavored syrup

  • 1 cup ketchup

  • 2 teaspoons dried mustard

  • 2 teaspoons vinegar

  • 1cup water

  • 12 all-beef hot dogs, cut into 1/2-inch round slices

  1. Wash the beans then soak them in 6 cups of water for 12 hours before cooking. Drain and wash the beans again.

  2. Peel the onion and cut into 1/8-inch pieces. Chop the tomato. Combine the brown sugar, maple-flavored syrup, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, tomato, and onion in the slow cooker.

  3. Cook uncovered on high setting until the brown sugar has dissolved; stir well.

  4. Add 1 cup water, beans, and hotdogs. Stir to cover the beans and hot dogs with sauce. Cook covered on low setting for 7 to 9 hours.

  5. One hour before serving, remove the cover and continue cooking on low setting.
