RUBIO'S HOT SAUCE

1 (29 oz) can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon granulated white sugar
2 teaspoons table salt

Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Toss in the crushed red pepper flakes and stir constantly until they’ve darkened nicely. You don’t want them to burn, but you do when them to be very dark.

Add the can of tomato sauce to the pan and continue to stir. Add the sugar and salt and let the sauce reduce over medium heat for about 10 minutes.

Pour the sauce into a container and refrigerate before serving.
