ONE BOWL RED DEVIL CAKE

2 cups sifted cake flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups buttermilk, divided use
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (4 oz.) bar Ghirardelli Unsweetened Baking Chocolate

Sift cake flour, sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt into large mixer bowl. Add shortening, half the buttermilk, eggs and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Mix in remaining buttermilk, melted chocolate. Beat additional 2 minutes. Spread into 9 x 13 inch greased cake pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes. Cool in pan.

CHOCOLATE SOUR CREAM FROSTING

1/2 cup sour cream
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 oz. Ghirardelli Unsweetened Baking Chocolate, melted

Beat sour cream, sugar, vanilla until smooth. Mix in melted chocolate. Spread over cooled cake in pan.

Makes 1 (13x9-inch) cake, 12-16 servings
