From Vermont: My sister-in-law gave us a bunch of clothes for our baby that had been sitting in cardbord boxes in her basement. They didn't have mildew stains, but they really smelled. I tried the baking soda, and I tried vinegar in the wash cycle and rinse cycle.
What finally worked was adding color-safe bleach in the wash cycle, and liquid fabric softener in the rinse cycle _______________ I agree that some kind of bleach would help. When living in hot humid moldy AustinTx - I also put things in the dryer extra hot for extra time with a couple dryer sheet. It really helped - The microbiology knowledge I went by was that mold is a spore and can stay hiding in a little shell in things waiting for a nice comfy time to open up and multiply. So by using a strong chemical such as bleach or an intense atmosphere like the dryer - it would kill it. M.A.
PS Know anything about getting urine smell out?
