COUNTRY FRIED STEAK

1/2 cup Bisquick Baking Mix
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1 pound beef round steak, cut into serving size pieces
2 tablespoons shortening
1 1/2 cups water, divided use

Blend baking mix, salt, pepper and paprika. Coat meat pieces with the mixture; reserve remaining seasoned mixture.

Cook meat in hot shortening in skillet until brown.

Add 1/4 cup of the water to the skillet; cover. Cook over low heat about 2 hours or until meat is tender. Remove meat to platter.

TO MAKE THE GRAVY:
Add 1 cup of the water to drippings in skillet. Stir together 2 tablespoons of the reserved seasoned mixture and remaining 1/4 cup water. Gradually stir into drippings. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly; boil and stir 1 minutes. Pour over meat.

Makes 4 servings
