ISO: information about salt and salt cellars

I'm trying to find the origin/definition/folklore/history/legend/myths surrounding salt such as:
: What is the Russian bread and salt custom? (khleb i sol')
: What does iodizing do for salt? Which materials are salt-corrosion-proof?
: What's the history and proper use of salt cellars and what's a master salt cellar?
: What do these phrases mean: "Above the salt", and "Salt of the earth"?
: What are superstitions about salt and the history of salt trade routes?
: Why is salt associated with hospitality?

I've tried some amateur forums for information but no one has had any information so I'm really hoping this message board will generate some responses. In any case, thank you for your time.
