First I have to tell you how I came to get this recipe, of which I've never
seen anything like it since. When I was young (but still interested in recipes) one
of the older women I worked with would rave about a cake her husband, Willy, always
had to have for his birthday or any special occassion. They were German. Well,
I talked her into sharing her secret recipe, but I warn you it's NOT low fat.

here is goes:

Cream Cake

1 c. sugar
5 eggs
beat together half and hour (not joking)
fold in 1 cup of flour
Pour into greased and floured layer cake pans (2). Bake in a preheated oven
for 20 min.

Icing and Filling

1 pkg. vanilla pudding mix, cook as directed, cool to room temp.

1/2 lb. unsalted butter
1/4 c. sugar.
beat butter and sugar until almost white

Fold in pudding 2-3 Tbsp. at a time. MUST be the same temp. pudding and butter
mixture or it will separate. CANNOT be refrigerated to put on the cake later.

Spread in between layers and on cake.

Almond Topping
1 pkg. slivered almonds (1 c.?)
3-4 Tbsp. butter
3-4 Tbsp. sugar

Place in heavy fry pan, brown over low heat. Sprinkle on frosted cake.

Willy likes it!

I did make it once and it is very rich, but delicious.
