REQUEST: inexpensive homemade "dough" as alternative to gum paste for practicing making flowers with cutters, etc. posted by Janet on May 01, 1997 at 12:17:53:

I am not sure if this will work for you, but I have used it in the past with success!

To start out with (to make sure you like using this mixture):
use 1 slice of bread torn into pieces
use 1 TBSP hobby glue
food color (optional)

Put bread and glue in plastic bag. Close bag and begin to "knead" the mixture. Add food color to your desired amount/preference. Continue to knead until all bread and glue and mixed together.

Bread mixture can be used to make plaster-type hobby projects. After shaped, cut, etc. store your creation in the open over night. The next morning they should have hardened.

Store any unused bread mixture in a tightly sealed bag or container. The mixture will stay good for several days.
