Hi Liz:

I grew up in S.W. Michigan and we called it "Hunkie Goulash"

Never measured the ingredients, that were:
About: 1 Lb± Ground Beef.
About: 1 Med Onion, chopped
About: 4oz Can Tomato Sauce.
About: 4 Tbs Catsup.
Cooked: Elbow Macaroni - as much as you like.
Salt, Pepper, Paprika and Nutmeg to taste.
And a pinch of sugar to blend in the flavors.
About: 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)
Water as and if needed.

After the meat is cooked, drain and discard most of the grease.
Add the onion and cook until transparent.
Add all remaining ingredients and mix well.
Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
Let it set for 15 minutes to blend the flavors together.

If you're really in a hurry or in a pinch try "Hamburger Helper" - 'CHILI MAC' It comes close, quick and in a box.
