When lived in Germany back in the early sixties, and when I have visited since, the meat salad seemed to me to be very close to the recipe Elly gave you. Her recipe means, "Meat Salad, Bremen Style." German cooking is extremely regional, so a meat salad in another part of Germany, or only 15 miles away might taste slightly different. I looked in an old Joy of Cooking, and was surprised to find no recipe there for a German meat salad. There is a great Herring Salad though, which is sold and eaten very similarly to the meat salad.
