this is in a cook book that i really trust and it is an OLD one (1950s') and that is a recipe that started then so it should be good, haven't tried though. from settlement cookbook
Sheperds pie
remove the bones cristle and fat form cooked meat, grind the meat [use hamburger!] mix 1/3 cup gravy for each cup of meat, 1/4 tea. salt dash pepper, 1 small chopped onion, a little chopped parsley. Place in buttered baking dish:speard mashed potatoes over the meat and bake in a moderate oven 350o until potaoes are browned
Or cover with the potato curst recipe below:
potato crust:
2 cups flour
1/2 tea salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup cold mashed potatoes
milk or water
sift toghter the dry stuff and cut in the shortening, add potatoes and lastly enough milk to form a soft dough. Roll on floured board cover pie and slash. bake as dierected above.
