SLICK DUMPLINGS

My mother made wonderful fluffy dumplings with chicken, but both my brother
and I would vote for my dad to make these dumplings; much to my mother's
dismay.

We liked the chewy dumplings best! This was more than 60 years ago!

2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp baking powder
3 Tbsp. shortening
3/4 cup milk

Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together: Rub in shortening with knife
or finger tips. Add milk to make a soft dough. Roll out very, very thin
on a floured board. Cut in squares. Drop separately into gently boiling
liquid (chicken stock etc.) and cook 15 minutes. Do not cover.
