Hi Kathy;
I found this on the internet a while back, but haven't tried it yet.
Friendship Cake

This would be a good thing to fix for a holiday party, and hand out jars of the starter along with the recipe as favors!

(It takes 20 days for the starter to be done, so count backwards from your party date)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friendship Cake Starter:

1-16 oz. can of fruit cocktail

1-16 oz. can of peaches

2-1/2 C. sugar

1-20 oz. can of pineapple tidbits

2-1/2 C. sugar

1-8 oz. jar of marachino cherries

2-1/2 C. sugar

Combine fruit cocktail (with juice), peaches (with juice), & 2-1/2 C. sugar in a large GLASS jar. (A sun tea jar works) Stir with a WOODEN spoon until sugar is dissolved. Cover & let stand at room temperature. Stir each day for 10 days. Add pineapple (with juice) & 2-1/2 C. sugar. Mix well (with wooden spoon). Stir each day for 10 days. Add cherries (with juice) & last 2-1/2 C.of sugar. Mix well. May store in refrigerator indefinitely after this step. Yields enough for 7 cakes.

Friendship Cake:

1-2 layer white cake mix

1-1/2 C. starter mix

2/3 C. oil

4 eggs

1 C. pecans, chopped

Always use a wooden or plastic bowl, wooden or plastic spoon, & mix all by hand!

Combine cake mix, starter, oil & eggs in bowl, mix well. Stir in pecans. Pour into a greased & floured bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, invert onto serving plate.
