Funny the foods that strike your fancy when you were a child! Mom woulf fix hamburger gravy once in a while--because it was so inexpensive a dinner, I'm sure--but we loved it and thought we had a real treasure!
Mom made it the way others described: brown the meat with a chopped onion, salt and pepper, sprinkle with enough flour to bind the drippings, let that cook, stirring, a couple minutes to get rid of the "raw flour" taste, then stir in milk, cooking ans stirring until the desired consistency. We'd have it with mashed potatoes, or sometimes just over torn bread, along with salad and green beans or whatever. Dinner for champions! Aahh..the good ol' days!
