Hi Pat;
It would probably work better if you let the bread sit for a few days. Mine was day old when I bought it and then I had it for a couple more days before using it. I agree with you about all that sweet syrup, I've never been fond of french toast either, but this was really goooooood.
I did make my Hubbys the regular way, he of the sweet syrupy persuasion. After I had dipped all of his slices I then added the basil and garlic powder.
