I wonder if this would be the same as our Elephant Ears. My mother -in -law makes these. You use any recipe for bread or bun dough. Take a bun sized piece and stretch it out flat, then deep fry in vegetable oil till golden brown. Then sprinkle with icing sugar or drizzle with pancake syrup. She calls them(schmootz kiegela) my spelling is not correct but that is how it sounds:)
