It sounds like you are talking about soft "puffed" tacos and I have been looking for the recipe myself. We drive to San Antonio for our soft taco fix at least once a month. What I have discovered about this dish is that it is considered an appetizer in the interior of Mexico and the tortillas are cooked on the gridle then briefly into hot fat until they puff. They are then filled with either beef, refried beans or cheese plus lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Good luck on your search...I'll be checking back to see if you're successful.
