OK... File this one under fun -- but dorky! -- kid stuff:
What you need:
candy corn Oreos red hots malted milk balls chocolate frosting (And a picture from Woman's World magazine showing how these darned things look when they're done would be helpful, too.)
How to:
1. Take the oreo cookie and twist it apart. Turn the side that has the white stuff on its back (that's the base of your turkey creation). Put a small dab of chocolate frosting in the middle of the white stuff and "glue" a malted milk ball to the base.
2. Take some more frosting and "glue" the other half of the oreo to the back of the malted milk ball (this will be the base for the turkey feathers.
3. Using frosting to attach the pieces, assemble the turkey like this: Stack a second malted milk ball on the first, making the turkey's head. Then, attach candy corn in a fan pattern on the upright oreo half, creating a turkey's fanned tail.
4. Last, attach a red hot on the front of the second (topmost) malted milk ball to resemble the turkey's "gobbler," as my mother so scientifically describes it. (The red hot is actually attached at a 90 degree angle, with a thin edge touching the face of the milk ball. You'll see how it needs to go on the bird when you're making it.)

These "cookies" were such a hit at my mom's house five years ago that my now ex-husband kept his in the refrigerator for five months to remind him of Thanksgiving. Yipes! (Or is it "gobble gobble"?)
