You posted "Iowa Chocolate Cake" on this board on July 10 and I printed it off back around that time but just now seriously read it over since I wanted to make it today, and find I need your help.

Your recipe lists (for the smaller cake size):
3/4 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1-1/2 cups boiling water
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup cocoa
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla

My question is should there be any baking soda or baking powder added to the above? If so, how much and would these be sifted with the other dry ingredients?

I lost my nerve and didn't try the recipe because I thought I should find out from you first since this is to be given to a neighbor. I'd probably eat anything but they may not!

Thank you,

Janet
