CINNAMON NUT SCONES
2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 cup plus 1 tsp. sugar, divided 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. plus 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, divided 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup butter or margarine 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 egg 1 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 cup raisins 1 egg, beaten
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Sift together flour, 1/4 cup of the sugar, baking powder, the 1 teaspoon cinnamon and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir milk and egg into flour mixture with walnuts and raisins.
Divide dough in half. Pat into two 6-inch circles. Cut each circle into 6 wedges. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Brush with beaten egg. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over scones.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool.
