Here are a couple versions.
SHORTENING BREAD
4 c. flour (self-rising) 1 lb. butter 1 c. light brown sugar
Mix flour and sugar; blend in soft butter and place on floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out into desired shapes and bake in moderate oven (325 degrees to 350 degrees) for 20 to 25 minutes.
SHORTENING BREAD
4 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 2 Tbsp. shortening 1 1/2 c. water
Sift flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl. Add shortening. Mix with hands or cut in with pastry blender. Add water and mix. Knead dough; form into a flat loaf and bake for 20 minutes at 450 degrees.
