Found this recipe today and thought it will be a good treat for kids. It's an old recipe from this author's grandma. I reckon it's delicious. Have a go if you are interested... I know I will try this one out myself soon!
PS: Make sure the kids brush their teeth afterwards! ^__^ -------------------------------------------------------- Special K Bars
1 cup white sugar 1/2 cup white Karo Syrup 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup butter 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 cups Special K or Rice Krispie cereal
Butter a 9 x 9 pan first because once mixture is hot there is little time to try to prepare the pan. Heat the sugar and Karo syrup until sugar is dissolved. (I like to let my sugar mixture bubble for 1-2 minutes stir constantly). Remove from heat. Stir in butter and peanut butter until melted. Add extract. Stir in cereal. Work quickly...pour in buttered pan and pat in place using your hands (which have been run under cold water and excess water shaken off)
The easiest frosting for this bar is 1/2 cup each chocolate and butterscotch chips gently warmed and melted smooth. Pour over slightly cooled bars and spread.
Cool and eat. I usually double this recipe to fit into a 9 x 13 pan. The recipe I have is written out in my Grandmothers hand and is yellowed, tattered and stained. These bars are excellent.
