Chocolate Crackle-Top Cookies Woman's Day - September 14, 1999
1 stick (1/2 cup) Butter or margarine (not spread), softened 1/2 cup light Molasses 1/2 cup unsweetened Cocoa Powder 1/4 cup Sugar 1 teaspoon Baking Soda 1 teaspoon ground Cinnamon 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1 1/2 cups Flour
Topping: 1/4 cup Sugar
1. Heat oven to 350°. Have cookie sheet(s) ready. 2. In large bowl with mixer on high speed, beat butter, molasses, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, vanilla and salt until well blended. Reduce speed to low; beat in flour just to blend. (Dough will be firm.) Form into 1-inch balls; roll in Topping Sugar. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet(s). 3. Bake 8 to 9 minutes until puffed and cracked. Cool on cookie sheet 1 minute, then remove to a wire rack to cool.
