I am having a major, no-more-night-school power cleaning surge at my house. Part of what's going out-out-out is all those Martha Stewart Living magazines and Midwest Living magazines with the little corners folded down for future reference. But when I came to the corner folded over this recipe, I stopped and got out the scissors. This is a real winner.
INDIANA CHEESE BALL (From Midwest Living Magazine)
2 - 8-ounce packages cream cheese, softened 3 ounces blue cheese, crumbled (3/4 cup) 1 tsp. garlic powder Dash worchestershire sauce Dash bottled hot sauce 1/2 cup chopped pecans Crackers
1. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients (except the nuts and the crackers). Beat till well combined. Cover and chill the mixture for three to four hours.
2. Shape mixture into a ball or a log. Roll in pecans to coat. Store, covered, in the refrigerator. Serve with crackers. Makes one cheese ball.

This is the start of Official Good Sleeping Weather in the Midwest. The mornings are crisp and clear, the afternoons sunny and industrious. But the evenings were made for pulling the quilt up to your nose and sleeping like a baby. Not too cold, not too hot, just right.
I always liked this time of year. Right before digging out the friendly old friends of sweaters, and the hot breakfast cereals. Right before the red maples switch on and the mums blossom. We is one lucky, lucky duck. Don't you think?
