Queen Elizabeth Cake
Cake 1 cup water, boiling 1 cup dates, chopped 1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup butter 1 egg 1 cup sugar 1 cup nuts chopped 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 1/2cups flour
Icing 5 tablespoons brown sugar 5 tablespoons milk 2 tablespoons buter, melted
Cake: Pour boiling water over chopped dates, add 1 teaspoon baking soda. Let stand while mixing rest of cake. Combine butter, egg, sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, vanilla and flour. Add nuts Add date mixture, mix. Put into baking pan Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done
Icing Combine brown sugar, milk, butter. Mix and heat. Pour over cake while hot.
