Cathy: This recipe came to me years ago from a friend's mother. She was born and raised in southern Georgia. She relayed to me that the recipe had been made in her family as long as she could remember. At the time she was in her late 60's, this was 20 years ago.
I call it: Mrs. Carver's Butter Pound Cake
1 pound real butter -room temperature (do not use margarine, use unsalted butter) 3-1/3 cups sugar 10 eggs - room temperature 4 cups plain flour
Mix butter and sugar until whitish in color. Add eggs until uniform in color. Fold in flour (or very delicately beat). Grease and flour a tube pan. (NOT bundt) Bake at 300 degrees for 1-1/2 hours.(It always takes a good bit longer even if oven is correct) Do not open doors.
Do not bak if raining.
NOW, this is exactly how she wrote it except for the stuff in (). Use a cake tester to test for doneness. Hope you enjoy. It always gets rave reviews.
