Susan: Put your scouts to work cleaning and chopping the ingredients for these packets. Then, with everything ready, have each girl assemble their own "packet". These could also be made using ground chicken or turkey.HOBO STEW PACKETS
1 lb. ground round 3-4 T. Heinz 57 Sauce Seasoned salt and pepper
Mix this up thoroughly and shape into four hamburger patties.
Using aluminum foil, have 8 large sheets ready. Each packet will use 2 sheets of foil (doubled for extra strength). Place a hamburger patty in the center of each.
Clean and prepare a variety of vegetables:
thinly sliced potatoes sliced carrots sliced red/green bell pepper mushrooms sliced onions
Have each girl arrange the vegetables around the hamburger patty and sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt and pepper to taste.
Fold the aluminum foil until it resembles a "packet." Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook the packets for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Make sure that the meat and veggies are done. When done, remove the packets from the oven.
(These are great cooked over the coals of a bbq or campfire.)
Place on a serving tray and drain the juices from each packet. Put each packet on a plate and serve with additional A1 Sauce, Heniz 57 Sauce, or ketchup.
