Buttermilk Biscuits Makes 12 biscuits
Here is an authentic homemade Buutermilk Biscuit recipe and the ones we enjoy on Sunday morning. These are fabulous with butter and jam!
2 cups flour 1 Tbsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 5 Tbsp. chilled solid veg. shortening 1 cup buttermilk
preheat oven to 425. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut the shortening into the flour mixture until coarse crumbs appear.
Add the buttermilk tossing with a fork until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead a few times til smooth. Pat the dough into a 3/4-inch thickness and using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass dipped in flour, cut out your biscuits, place them 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake til golden 12-15 mts. Serve hot.
