Alison,this recipe is also taken from "The New York Times Cookbook".

Oatmeal Thins:
Yield:About 2 dozen

1/2 c.flour
1&1/2 c.rolled oats,either quick-cooking or old- fashioned
1/4 c.superfine sugar
1/2 tsp.baking soda
1/4 lb.butter
1 Tbls.maple syrup

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2.Mix together the flour,oats,sugar & baking soda.Melt the butter with the syrup & add to dry ingredients.
3.Place teaspoonsful of the batter 2 " apart on greased cookie sheets.Bake for 8-10 minutes.Let stand for 1-2 minutes before removing to racks to finish cooling.
