Recipe(tried): Grandma's Meatloaf

The recipe you described sounds very close to the Classic Meatloaf from the Quaker Oats box, of years ago and also similar to the one that Hunt's Tomato Sauce recipe.

Here are the 'basic' ingredients:

1 and 1/2 pounds ground beef

3/4 cup Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned) my guess grandma might have chosen the old fashioned variety.

3/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/2 cup (8 oz) can of Hunt's Tomato Sauce

1 or 2 eggs, slightly beaten

1 small can of evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed)*

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

*The recipes did not call for the additonal evaporated milk ingredient. So,using the old fashioned oats would probably be best to help absorb the extra liquid.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Lightly mix all ingredients with a fork, or use your hands. Form into a loaf and put into a baking dish. Or, put the mixture into a 10 x 6-inch loaf pan.

Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until the juices show no pink color. Let stand a few minutes before slicing. Refrigerate any leftovers promptly and use within 2 days or freeze up to 3 months.

p.s. The Quaker Oats website also says you can use ground turkey, as a meat substitute.
