Eggless Spice Cake

1 3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup sour milk
1/2 cup nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Cream butter and sugar well. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with milk to butter/sugar mixture. Add the nuts and put in a well greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.
