Looking thru Mom's recipes, I found this one for Fruit Dumplings that we often made at our cabin in the northern part of our state while growing up. If we didn't have cherries we used blueberries or canned peaches. We always added at least 1/2 cup orange jice to the fruit for extra liquid, since it seemed to need it. I can still see the fruit bubbling in the battered old saucepan we used!

EZ Cherry Dumplings

2 cans (1 lb each) tart red cherries with syrup (or other fruit of your choice)
at least 1/2 cup orange juice
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups Bisquick
2 Tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup milk

Combine fruit, fruit syrup, orange juice and the 1 1/2 cups sugar. Boil 10 minutes. Combine Bisquick and the 2 Tablespoons sugar. Stir in milk. Drop dumpling mixture by Tablespoonfuls into boiling fruit. Cook, uncovered, 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer. Serve warm with milk or cream. Serves 6
