This dessert has always been a hit! Not many people I know had ever heard of it, but it's been a part of my family for over 50 years.
Ingredients:
Lg. pkg. Oreo cookies Lg. container cool whip Lg. pkg. Lime jello
Make the jello according to the package directions - except DO NOT ADD the cold water (= half the water). While it's cooling in the fridge - crush all of the cookies (a large zip-lock type bag & rolling pin save on the mess) and place all but 2 handfulls of crushed cookies into a rectangular cake pan. Fold together partially cooled (but not solidified) jello & whipped cream, then pour over cookies. Sprinkle the rest of the cookies on top (optional). Refrigerate for at least a few hours... usually over night.
My Grandmother used to use real whipping cream, sugar, egg whites, etc.... and I simplified it by mistake the first time I ever made it!
You can also use light whipped crean or sugar free jello (or both). The lime is great, but I've also used other jello flavors. Orange for Halloween... even stripes of lime and strawberry/cherry at Christmas!
Hope someone enjoys!!!
