Mona, I found this in an old cookbook. Although it does not use molasses, it sounds like what you and I love. I remember it as brown sugar nad not molasses but it tastes like Molasses. Have4 never tried to make it and if you do pls. let us know how it is. Good Luck!
Sponge Taffy
3 cups Brown Sugar 2/3 cup Corn Syrup 2/3 cup Water 1/4 teaspoon 4 teaspoons Baking Soda
Measure sugar, syrup, water and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves; boil, stirring occasionally, until the mixture spins a thread from the spoon or forms soft threads in cold water, 290F (about 15 minutes).
While syrup is boiling, butter bottom of 8x12-inch pan with deep sides or two (8-inch) cake pans. Place in fridge to chill.
Remove syrup; sift the baking soda evenly over the top and stir once to completely combine the soda. Pour, while effervescing, into the chilled pan; let stand undisturbed at room temperature until cold.
Loosen the sides, invert the pan and turn out; cut into large squares. Wrap in waxed paper.
Hope this is what you are looking for. Judy
