I found a recipe for you. The preparation says nothing about mixing the ingredients ahead and letting the batter sit, but it sounds very close to what you're looking for. Hope it helps.

HAWAIIAN NUT CAKE

1/2 lb. butter
2 cups sugar
6 eggs
1 lb. box graham crackers, crushed to fine meal
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1 cup walnuts and pecans, mixed
1 can coconut

Cream together butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beat well after each. Mix in cracker meal mixed with soda and baking powder and milk. Stir in nuts and coconut. Pour into 3 round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes.

ICING:
1 lb. 4 oz. can pineapple (drain and save juice)*
1/2 stick real butter
1 box confectioners sugar
1 cup coconut
Warm butter enough to soften a little

Mix all together and ice cake between layers and on top.

*Before icing cake, pour pineapple juice over each layer and let soak in.
