When I think of traditional desserts, I also think of dump cakes. Here is a sample recipe.

CHERRY/PINEAPPLE DUMP CAKE OR COBBLER
(Originally posted on TKL by Patsy, LA October 18th 1999)

Ingredients:
1 (15 1/2 oz.) can crushed pineapple;
1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling;
1 box Duncan Hines (or brand of your choice) yellow cake mix;
1 cup chopped nuts;
3/4 cups butter or margarine.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread crushed pineapple in bottom of 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan; top with cherry pie filling. Sprinkle yellow cake mix over the fruit,and sprinkle chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds (or a mixture of nuts) over the cake mix. Melt 3/4 cups butter or margarine and pour over the cake mix.

Bake for 40 minutes.

This can be made with any pie filling. If apple pie filling is used omit the pineapple and nuts and use a spice cake mix.
