In addition to Sandi's excellent suggestions, I've always found that other dried fruits (pineapple tidbits, sliced mango, dried apricots, etc.) go over well.

I usually try to keep something sweet, something crunchy in the car. Look for resealable packages or pack in zip-to- plastic bags.

Bring plastic knives, forks, and spoons, a good cutting knife (pocket size is fine), wet-wipes, and paper towels or napkins.

Stop at roadside stands for fresh fruit.

Don't forget the water!!! Bring bottled water or refill sports bottles when you stop.
