Patty, I saw the author of this book in action on TV some tiime ago... I don't know if you are into picking up a book on the subject, or perhaps if you can get it from the library?; she has a big range of things the kids desmystify and conquer, anyway, there are a few recipes from this book under Chat-Books:

Recipes from Kitchen for Kids: 100 Amazing Recipes Your Children Can Really Make by Jennifer Low

There was a lot of fun stuff in the book!

Aside from that reference, have fun!! I have always enjoyed cooking with my own kids, now they are teens...and the younger one says he would like to be a chef, and is taking home-ec this year (grade 9). It's a great way to use some science, reading skills, team work, etc., and then you get to eat your project. What's better than that?!

Cheers!

Carolyn!

ps author is from Vancouver, too!

pps when I think about it, I am sure the first thing my kids ever made was personal pizzas. First we made the dough, rolled it out to individual size pizzas (many shapes work great...once we made "dog-bone" pizzas!), and prepared the toppings and then they decorated their pizza with the toppings they liked best. I remember my older son (about 7 at the time) telling one of his little friends that broccoli on pizza was just like chocolate! And almost ten years later, guess what?, it is still his favourite topping!

Somehow, when kids have a hand in the process, their taste repertoire expands, too!
