Gladys my dear, I had never seen a fresh garbanzo/chickpea until 2 weeks ago and that's with my obvious advantage of living in California, one of the greatest places in the USA for fresh produce! The flavor of these fresh peas/beans is almost nutty. As different a taste as you would find between a freshly minced clove of garlic and the stuff that comes in a jar. If it is any comfort, know that I happened to be in the Valley some 50 miles from home when I found these little podded treasures!
