Recipe: Dog Berry or Mountain Ash Jelly

I just found this recipe on-line and am looking for a Cider one for Mountain Ash berries, a.k.a. Dog Berries.

DOG BERRY OR MOUNTAIN ASH JELLY

My mother made this every year just after the first frost. In Newfoundland, where I grew up, Mountain Ash berries are called Dogberries. In my mother's hand written cookbook this is called Dogberry Jelly.

1 quart Mountain Ash Berries
2 dozen crabapples (or the equivalent in sour cooking apples.)
Sugar

Sterilize canning jars for 10 minutes and keep hot. Treat new canning lids according to instructions on the box.

Wash berries, wash and cut apples. Place together in a large saucepan and cover with water; boil until soft. Mash while cooking.

Strain through a jelly bag or cheese cloth.

Measure syrup and put on to boil for 15 minutes. Add 3/4 cup of sugar for each cup of juice you measured.

Continue cooking until a few drops placed on an ice-cold plate will jell.

Remove from heat and pour quickly into hot jars, leaving 1/4-inch head space. Wipe jar rims, adjust lids and process in a boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
