My ham pot pie recipe is much the same as the one above, only instead of using water to make my pot pie dough, I use cooled ham broth. This gives the dough a ham flavor instead of just tasting like flour and water. I usually pour flour out into a bowl, then make a well in the middle and pour in a little cooled ham broth at a time until I have the right consistency.
To cool the broth off quickly, I add an ice cube or two. If you use hot broth, your flour will turn into a sticky mess.
I also don't add onion to my ham pot pie. My hubby likes onion in his, so he just slices it on top of his plate of food before he eats it. That way we all get what we want!
This is one of those meals that have been in my family for years and years. As a child, I didn't even realize there was any other kind of pot pie except for ham...I had never had chicken pot pie in my life until I was older and then it just couldn't compare to the smoky taste of ham. Enjoy!
