GUM DROP BREAD
3 c. applesauce 1 c. shortening 2 c. sugar 5 c. flour 4 tsp. soda 1 tsp. each nutmeg, allspice & salt 2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. cloves 3 pkgs. sm. gum drops (no black ones) 1 1/2 c. raisins
Heat applesauce in saucepan. Add shortening and sugar; mix well. Cover; let stand overnight. Combine dry ingredients in large bowl; mix thoroughly. Blend in applesauce mixture. Stir gum drops and raisins into mixture. Pour into greased and floured loaf pans. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 hours. NOTE: I have never made this recipe so I do not know what they mean by "package" for size/quantity so you will have to use your best judgement here.

3 c. flour 1/2 c. chopped nuts 1/2 c. raisins 1 c. gum drops, cut up 1 1/2 c. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 3/4 c. sugar 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 egg, beaten 2 tbsp. melted shortening
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together into a bowl. Stir in the nuts, raisins, and gum drops. Blend egg with the melted shortening, milk, and vanilla. Add this to the dry ingredients and stir until moist. Pour into loaf pan which has been rubbed with shortening and floured lightly. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. Cool and slice. |
