I attended a formal reception and they had fresh strawberries next to a fondue pot filled with chocolate. It was absolutely delicious! They left the stems in the strawberries (for garnish maybe! ha ha) and had colored toothpicks to dip the fruit with. For a baby shower once, someone had purchased store-bought bread that was hot pink (whole loaf). She cut the bread length-wise (instead of the normal width-wise), covered with a thin layer of tuna salad, and rolled it up and cut into pinwheels, securing with toothpicks. I've seen these loaves in Wal-Mart superstores but I'm not sure how common they are elsewhere. Everyone loved them! A crockpot filled with a bag or two of meatballs with bbq or sweet/sour sauce or something would be easy, too. Or if you have a heated serving dish, that would look better. Fresh fruit kabobs made with precut mixed fruit. Take a 1" square of cheddar, place a green grape on top, and secure with a toothpick. These are always a favorite when my g/f and I entertain. We have to make several trays full--- Take a slice of ham, spread a thin layer of softened cream cheese, place a pickle spear on top lengthwise, roll up. Place toothpicks about every inch or so, cut into pinwheels. Some of these may sound a little weird, but try them out. They are delicious! Good luck and congrats to the happy couple! |
