I place apple slices mixed with sugar (white or brown) and cinnamon in an unbaked pie shell. I then make a crumb topping of 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter or margarine. Mix the ingredients together until it looks like coarse corn meal. Spread on top of sliced apples in pie shell and bake. I usually start at 400 F for 15 minutes and then reduce heat to 350 F for 30 to 45 minutes (until apples are soft). This is great the first day when the topping is "crunchy" but will soften overnight.
