So, this man is driving down the highway and he's got a penquin hanging out the passenger side window. A highway patrolman pulls him over and says, "You can't just drive around with a penquin in your car."
"I can't?"
"No."
"Then what should I do?"
"You've got to take that penquin to the zoo."
So, the next weekend, the same highway patrolman sees the same car, with the same guy, and the penquin is still hanging out the car window. The patrolman turns on the siren and motions the guy over. "Hey, I thought I told you to take that bird to the zoo!"
"I did. And we had such a good time that today we're going to the ballgame."
Today, in honor of DH not working Sunday, I'm fixing perch filets, biscuits, cream of parsnip soup, and strawberry salad for dessert. This is the recipe i make for potlucks, a real winner:
Strawberry Salad
(From Jim Lloyd's Around The House Cookbook, 1974)
2 boxes of strawberry Jello (regular size boxes, not jumbo) 2 cups boiling water 1 - no. 2 can crushed pineapple - juice and all - do not drain 1 quart frozen strawberries, defrosted slightly 2 bananas, mashed 1 carton sour cream
Mix Jello and water. Add pineapple and its juice. Add strawberries. Stir until softened. Add mashed bananas. Put half the mixture in a pretty glass bowl and let set in the refrigerator. Spread the sour cream over the set first layer. Add over half of Jello mixture carefully over the top of the sour cream. Chill until the top layer is set.
NOTE: Jim Lloyd hosted the Open Line Recipe Show on clear-channel WMT-AM in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This salad is created to Jean Chittick, in South English, Iowa.
Open Line is still on the air. We get my mother-in-law Helen the Open Line Newsletter every year for Christmas.
Have a great week.
