So -

This man had a large, overly friendly dog.

And it was Halloween. Right after supper, the doorbell rang. The man and the big dog raced each other to the door. The man opened the door, then turned to the dog and bellowed, "SIT!"

And out on his front porch, two small trick-or-treaters promptly sat down.

Sweepsteak

This is a famous, fun recipe from the 70's. We all put this in the oven when we left for church and had Sunday dinner ready when we got back home. This recipe spread like wildfire, like an urban legend.

1 to 1 & 1/2 pounds beef
1 package dried onion soup mix
1 small can sliced mushrooms, drained
2 potatoes, sliced thin

Tear off two long pieces of aluminum foil. Put them into a 9X13 pan, in a double layer, one on top of the other. Place the sliced potatoes on top of the aluminum foil. Top with the beef. Top with the mushrooms. Sprinkle the dry soup mix over the top of everything.

Fold the aluminum foil, sides together, and then fold again, for a double fold ("pharmacy fold"). Fold both ends over twice. Place in a preheated, 300 degrees F. oven for three hours.

Good with green beans and vanilla pudding for dessert.

My company has a Halloween costume contest every year. First prize is a day off with pay. Second and third prizes are cash. It sure motivates people to go whole-hog. But before my first cup of coffee this morning, I met a vampire bride, complete with fake blood, bounding off the elevator. That will wake you up faster than coffee, folks.

Have a great, deep Fall weekend,

Your pal,

Tanis
