Hi Clare,

There are so many versions of this dish but here are three that you can easily convert to exactly fit the recipe remembered.

All In One Dinner

Layer raw potatoes, sliced
Layer onion, sliced
Bacon strips or bacon pieces
Green pepper slices
Layer uncooked hamburger, season with salt & pepper
Layer shredded cheese
3 tbsp. uncooked rice
Layer carrots, sliced thin

Pour over:
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can tomato soup

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

All In One Dinner 2

1 layer peeled, sliced potatoes (4 lg.)
1 layer diced onion
1 layer of 1/2 lb. diced bacon, partially fried
Green pepper, diced (amount optional)
1 lb. hamburger, browned
1/2 lb. Velveeta cheese, cubed
3 tbsp. uncooked rice

Mix together 2 cans cream of celery (or mushroom) soup with 1 1/2 cans of milk. Add salt and pepper. Pour over other ingredients. Place in greased casserole in designated layers and bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

One Pan Busy Woman’s Dinner

Bacon
Hamburger patties
Sliced potatoes
Carrots
Onion
Green pepper
1 cup water
Salt and pepper to taste

Line a skillet (electric skillet is best) with bacon. Let the bacon fry until enough bacon fat covers skillet bottom. Put a layer of hamburger patties on top of bacon. Salt and pepper each layer. Put a thick layer of sliced potatoes over the hamburger patties. Place a layer of carrots, sliced thin on top of potatoes. Put a layer of onions, sliced thin, on top of carrots. Place a layer of green peppers, sliced thin, on top of onions. Pour in 1 cup of water, cover and let simmer 40 to 60 minutes. Serve right from skillet. Check often to see that it is not sticking as you may need to add a little more water.

Happy Cooking!
